SBG has been awarded a contract by the Council of State Governments (CSG) to conduct a study on data management practices within election management systems (EMS). Working with CSG, the Federal Voting Assistance Program, and several states around the country, SBG will research and analyze database management practices and develop a set of uniform standards for the tracking of voter information and the design of future EMSs. The objective is to improve the accuracy and consistency of voter data through the standardization of data management practices.
The study will be led by three of the leading election administration experts in the country: Dr. Michael McDonald, Dr. Lonna Atkeson and Doug Chapin. In addition to assessing data management practices, SBG will provide change management and communications support to CSG. The results of the study will be published and distributed to state and local election officials nationwide.
