SBG Leads Open Source Initiatives

Posted on

February 27, 2013 – SBG proudly supports the Twenty-First Century Medical Scheduling Contest with the Department of Veterans Affairs, a key component of the VA’s transformation of its approach to information technology. The antithesis of the traditional internally focused approach to IT, the contest is an outreach to the technical community at large seeking the very best ideas and capabilities available. Underscoring the VA’s commitment to open source software, this outreach is focused on the two primary goals of assessing the current state of the art in medical scheduling and providing a conduit by which the VA can access the creativity and innovative capacity of the software development community. SBG supports this initiative by providing a variety of comprehensive contest support services.

Stafford – SBG TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS, INC. (SBG) announced today that in recognition of the economic power of multicultural businesses, DiversityBusiness.com recently named SBG TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS, INC. in three Top Small Business categories. Launched in 1999, Diversity Business, with over 48,000 members, is the largest organization of diversity owned businesses throughout the United States that provide goods and services to Fortune 1000 companies, government agencies, and colleges and universities.

This trio of awards ranked SBG TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS, INC. in the following order:

  • 63rd among the Top 100 Diversity Owned Businesses in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • 60th among the Nation’s Top 100 Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses in the United States.
  • 175th among the Nation’s Top 500 Veteran Owned Businesses in the United States

Both the Div500 and Div100 are the 10th annual listings of the nation’s small businesses. The companies listed in each of these divisions represent the top multicultural earners country-wide, and challenges the long-held notion that small business is insignificant. Members of each division are sought after by major corporations wishing to increase spending with small and diversity owned companies.
SBG will be presented with the awards at the 10th Annual Multicultural Business Conference, to be held April 27 – 29, 2010 in Washington, D.C. The conference was first held during 2001, and has a history of bringing together entrepreneurs, corporate diversity practitioners, government agencies and college/university, practice-based participants with an interest in the issues of multicultural business and community. The conference examines the concept of multiculturalism as a positive aspect of a global world and globalized society.

“I’m both pleased and honored to receive these new corporate awards,” said President and CEO Carlos Del Toro. “These awards represent the expertise and professionalism of our world-class employees, and our corporate commitment to excellence.”

SBG Technology Solutions Enters SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program

The Richmond District Office announced the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) certification of SBG Technology Solutions (SBG) as a Participant in the 8(a) Business Development Program. SBG’s nine (9) year program term began December 21st, 2006.

The SBA’s 8(a) program, named for a section of the Small Business Act, is a business development program created to help small disadvantaged businesses compete in the American economy and access the federal procurement market.

Additionally, SBG has been certified as a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) in the Federal Government’s SDB program. SBG’s term of participation in the SDB program is concurrent with the 8(a) Business Development Certification.

While the 8(a) Program offers a broad scope of assistance to socially and economically disadvantaged firms, SDB certification strictly pertains to benefits in federal procurement. SBA certifies SDBs to make them eligible for special bidding benefits. Evaluation credits available to prime contractors boost subcontracting opportunities for SDBs.
