After proudly supporting PEO Space Systems and PMW 146 for the past 13 years, SBG has developed a rich legacy in providing critical systems engineering and technical assistance. These contributions have led directly to successful accomplishments of significant acquisition milestones for the Mobile User Objective System program (MUOS) and the impressive launch of five MUOS satellites. MUOS provides the secure ultra-high frequency (UHF) satellite communications (SATCOM) for mobile forces.

With this new engineering services contract, SBG and its teammates will continue providing outstanding support to PEO Space Systems and PMW 146 through many significant upcoming program milestones including the Military Operational Test and Evaluation (MOT&E), early combatant command use and the Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) for the UHF follow-on system. Carlos Del Toro, President and CEO of SBG Technology Solutions added that, “It was about 13 years ago that we first started working with PEO Space Systems exploring the benefits of open architecture. Since then, we’ve been able to expand our engineering support to the command in many other ways. Knowing the importance of the tremendous capability that MUOS provides to the warfighter makes this contract that much more significant. It is truly an honor and privilege to be part of such a critical program.”

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – June 24, 2016 – SBG Technology Solutions, one of the fastest growing engineering service providers in the United States, is proud to congratulate the U.S. Navy on the successful launch of the fifth and final MUOS (Mobile User Objective System) Satellite on June 24th, 2016 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. MUOS-5 is the final addition to a network of five total orbiting satellites and relay ground stations that is revolutionizing secure communications for military forces on the move. Users with operational MUOS terminals can seamlessly talk, text and transfer data to other users and groups around the globe. MUOS’ new smart phone-like capabilities will provide safe and secure communications across the globe, through tough terrain and extended communications reach to the Polar Regions.

Mounted aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket standing 206 feet tall, the 15,000-pound MUOS-5 payload was launched with over two-and-a-half million pounds of thrust on the way to its final location 22,300 miles above the Indian Ocean. The MUOS system will provide a 10-fold increase in transmission throughput over the current (legacy) system, with each satellite also including a legacy payload that is fully compatible with the current UHF Follow-On system and legacy terminals.

This launch marks an exciting milestone for the MUOS program, completing the constellation which includes five satellites (four operational and an on-orbit spare) and four ground stations, in addition to a special waveform for end-user radios and software to control and manage the system. The successful launch of the fifth MUOS satellite ushers in a new age of secure communications from any location across the globe, enabling secure phone calls, classified data transfers and video on demand by military forces aboard ships, submarines, aircraft and land vehicles, plus terminals in the hands of troops while on the move.

For nearly a decade, SBG Technology Solutions has provided program management, space systems engineering/technical assistance, and acquisition and strategic planning professional support services to the Navy Program Executive Office for Space Systems, who has oversight of the MUOS satellite communications program and Navy’s Research, Development and Acquisition (RDA) activities in the Space domain.
“SBG Technology Solutions is thrilled to stand, side-by-side, with the Navy for the successful launch of the fifth MUOS satellite,” said Carlos Del Toro, CEO of SBG. “Programs like this are critical elements of U.S. national security; we are humbled to be a part of such a project.”
